September to Maine .... Day 0

After several weeks of planning, plotting, scheduling, negotiating and other related necessary activities, J2 (my better half who wishes to remain anonymous) and I are finally ready.  I will meet her in Portland for dinner from whence we shall explore previously uncharted territory and make it ours - at least in memory.  So dear reader, we share with you our recent escapades in these following pages.

I depart Boston on a clear late-summer evening where the air is crisp and Boston's landmarks are bright.
Wednesday becomes Friday
Heading to South Station bypassing beggars
Hoping to reach Maine in time

Getting closer to the bus ...

Concord Coach gets to Portland a bit earlier than the "Down Easter" on Amtrak, and I really wanted to get there!  The ride was awesome (but the pictures are a bit dark due to the "sunglasses" I put on my camera lens.... still living and learning).
Here is the ride ...leaving Boston and using Route 1 which is one of my absolute favorite roads in the eastern USA...
Farewell Boston:
And hello Route 1
Signature signage Boston
Poignant representative of America
Route 1 at its very best
But every path eventually leads to a highway.

and soon we are in the wonderful State of New Hampshire
... a short stay it is
as we pay our dues in the "tax-free" State
with more than one due...
But before long, we are over the bridge

and into Maine!
A bright cloud over dark trees
The speeding bus headed Northwards to freedom
Images of relaxing
and the rewards of a long day await at the bar of Portland's Five Fifty Five Restaurant...
